The Settlement-officer shall investigate all claims against the Government to hold land free from revenue or at less than a full assessment, or to receive the whole or part of the land-revenue assessed on land which is not free from revenue. Power of Chief Commissioner to make rules.---The Chief Commissioner may, with the previous sanction of the Governor General in Council, make rules determining the principles by which the Settle-ment-officer shall be guided in the disposal of claims coming under this section.
