(1)
The Academic Council shall be the Principal Academic body of the University and shall, subject to the provisions of this Act, statutes and ordinances, coordinate and exercise general supervision and control over the academic policies of the University and be responsible for the maintenance of standards of instructions, education and examination within the University, and shall exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed upon it by the statutes.
(2)
The Academic Council shall consist of the following members, namely:-
(i) the Vice-chancellor;
(ii) the Director Medical Education and Research;
(iii) the Dean of Faculties of the University;
(iv) the heads of the colleges affiliated to the University, not represented by the Deans of Faculties; and
(v) two eminent experts in health sciences education who are from outside the University or its affiliated Colleges.
