(1)

The Central Government may, by notification, declare that all or any of the provisions, under this Act or the rules made thereunder-

(a) other than that provided for safety, manning and prevention of pollution, shall not apply to any specified class or category of the mechanically propelled inland vessels; or

(b) shall apply to any specified class or category of the mechanically propelled inland vessels with such modifications, as may be specified in the notification.

(2)

Notwithstanding anything contained in this section, the Central Government may, by notification, suspend or relax to a specified extent, either indefinitely or for such period as may be specified in that notification, the operation of all or any of the provisions of this Act.
