- For the purpose of providing [Brihan Mumbai] [These words were substituted for the words 'Greater Bombay' by Maharashtra 25 of 1996, (w.e.f. 4.9.1996).] with a supply of water proper and sufficient for public and private purposes, the Commissioner, when authorized by the corporation in this behalf, may-

(a) construct and maintain water works, either within or without [Brihan Mumbai] [These words were substituted for the words 'Greater Bombay' by Maharashtra 25 of 1996, (w.e.f. 4.9.1996).] and do any other necessary acts;

(b) purchase or take On lease any water work or any water or right to store or to take and convey water; either within or without [Brihan Mumbai] [These words were substituted for the words 'Greater Bombay' by Maharashtra 25 of 1996, (w.e.f. 4.9.1996).];

(c) enter into an arrangement with any person for a supply of water.
