In the Prevention of Money-laundering Act, 2002, after section 12A, the following section shall be inserted, namely:—
"12AA. (1) Every banking company, financial institution and intermediary shall verify the identity of its clients and the beneficial owner of such clients, by—
(a) authentication or offline verification under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016; or
(b) passport issued under section 4 of the Passports Act, 1967; or
(c) any other officially valid document or modes of identification as may be notified by the Central Government.
(2) The client shall have the choice of any mode specified under sub-section (1) for verification of identity.
(3) No client shall be denied services for not having an Aadhaar number."
